Season’s Greetings!  As the New Year approaches, just wanted pass along for your awareness and sharing in your circles, the below post and accompanying map that we will be publishing on SUBASE Social Media Platforms as access associated with the Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act of 2018 goes into effect:

New Year 2020 allows certain eligible Veterans and Caregivers access to SUBASE support activities

GROTON, CT – The Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act of 2018 will allow certain eligible Veterans and eligible Caregivers access to DoD and Coast Guard commissaries, exchanges, and morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) facilities, beginning January 2020.

For Naval Submarine Base New London, authorized access will begin Thursday, January 2, when the Base Pass & ID Office is open and able to review credentials and documentation.

Veterans eligible are: Purple Heart recipients; Veterans who are former prisoners of war; and Veterans with a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)-documented service-connected disability rating of 0-90 percent. Eligible Veterans must obtain a Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC) from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Caregivers eligible solely under this act must obtain a letter from the VA Office of Community Care that indicates they are the primary family caregiver for a Veteran enrolled in the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers and are eligible for these privileges.

For Naval Submarine Base New London, eligible Veterans and Caregivers must proceed to the Base Pass & ID Office, Building 500, located outside the Base fence-line, adjacent to the Base Main Gate. The Pass & ID Office will review their credentials and documentation and authorize access if acceptable.
